How artificial intelligence unleashes creative potential in traditional painting.
The WÄLDERHAUS will display from April 5, 2023 the trendsetting painting exhibition “#FastestGrowingForest” of the contemporary landscape and portrait painter Arup J. Paul. Presented are hand-painted paintings and by artificial intelligence (AI) generated images with motifs of northern German forests and landscapes.
For the first time, the Hamburg-based Indian artist and creative technologist has integrated state-of-the-art technology
generative AI technology in his artistic work, with which he pushes the boundaries between the fields of technology and traditional painting and expands the possibilities of creative expression.
“#FastestGrowingForest” deals with the forest habitat, which in view of the fast urbanization and the effects of climate change is increasingly threatened. The exhibition shows large-format oil paintings using traditional painting techniques as well as images created using AI technology. In order to give the artworks an additional image levels, Arup J. Paul also uses Augmented Reality. Viewers can discover AR interactively with their smartphone, experience the forest and its magic in a very special way and become part of an immersive work of art. The exhibition thus shows a comprehensive spectrum analogue and digital means of artistic expression that use traditional techniques and state-of-the-art innovations.

Using cutting-edge generative AI technology, Arup J. Paul has developed a series of unique digital AI oil paintings that capture the magic, beauty and vulnerability of the forest. The artist has created an AI model with gigabytes of his digitized oil painting that analyzed his work for style, brushstrokes, composition, color palette and technique.
The artist says: “This exhibition explores the interface between the natural world and the digital realm, it is a visual symphony that combines past, present and future. I tried to use technology to evoke new art forms that push the boundaries of creative expression to capture the very essence of artistic creation and perception.
Vernissage on April 4, 2023:
“#FastestGrowingForest” will be on view at the WÄLDERHAUS from April 4th to June 13th, 2023.
At 4. April at 6 p.m. there will be a vernissage with the artist, to which the public is cordially invited.
The artist will show with a video how an AI oil painting is created on the computer and what is possible in the future.
The exhibition is an absolute must for art connoisseurs and anyone interested in the interface of technology and art.
